TWO TYPES OF IMPLANTS

They serve as a foundation for bridges or dental crowns which replace missing teeth. A dental implant is a post made of titanium that is embedded in the jawbone just below the gum line. Dental implants are durable and do not become loose like dentures. They do not need support from surrounding teeth. This makes them a better alternative than other available options. Endosteal: Endosteal implants are attached to the jaw bone; they are the most common implant. Endosteal provides an alternative to bridges and dentures and is capable of holding one or more prosthetic teeth. These implants consist of screws, blades or cylinders; they are implanted into the jawbone during surgery.
Subperiosteal: Subperiosteal implants are “on-the-bone” implants. They are placed onto the jaw; posts from the gum are used to hold prosthetic teeth. These implants are used for patients who lack adequate bone structure and for patients who cannot wear dentures.
